Don’t Forget

On his birthday eve, my son’s sleepy voice, almost at the edge of dreamland, quietly reminds me to order a cake for his birthday. Hmph! As if that’s something I will forget!!

Well, to be fair to this little almost 6-year-old there may have been more than a few instances in the past that reinforce his belief that parents are pretty much useless when it comes to remembering the most important things.

“Mumma, did you forget to get the cartload full of chocolate cookies that I wanted you to buy from the grocery store?”

“Dadda, have you forgotten to order all those toys that you and I looked at online?”

“Mumma, don’t you think you’re forgetting to buy new batteries for my very noisy and shrill toy?”

“Dadda, why do you forgot every Sunday morning that we had to go and run around in the park first thing in the morning?

“Mumma, did you forget that you had to read this book to me for the 6-millionth time after dinner was done?”

“Dadda, why did you forget to find that microscopic piece of green crayon which is the only piece that will allow me to finish my drawing!”

“Mumma look! You forgot to vacuum in this tiny crevice behind my bed where this piece of Lego is now growing its own babies!”

Can you relate to such statements? Yes, I’ve become quite forgetful after becoming a parent! Actually, as I think about it now I’m sure my mum also “forgot” things very often when we were growing up.

What can I say, life comes full circle doesn’t it 😉
